Double Chin Removal Treatment in Singapore

The appearance of a double chin, medically known as submental fullness, can affect individuals regardless of their overall body weight or fitness level. Some may feel self-conscious about excess fat beneath the chin, as it may influence how the lower face and neck are perceived. Modern aesthetic medicine offers several non-surgical approaches that target this concern using evidence-based methods. At our clinic, our qualified aesthetic doctors tailor double chin removal plans based on individual needs, using technologies that are selected for safety, suitability, and clinical goals.

What is Double Chin Removal?

Double chin removal refers to non-surgical treatments that address fat accumulation and skin laxity in the submental area (beneath the chin). These treatments are designed to reduce localised fat that may not respond to lifestyle changes. Contributing factors include genetics, age, and facial anatomy.

Treatment modalities use different mechanisms—some break down fat cells, while others apply thermal or cooling energy to reduce fat and stimulate collagen. All procedures are performed in-clinic without general anaesthesia or surgical incisions. Selection depends on the amount of excess fat, skin quality, and your aesthetic goals, as assessed during consultation.

Who Is a Suitable Candidate?

May be suitable for individuals who:

  • Have mild to moderate submental fullness
  • Maintain realistic expectations and goals
  • Have adequate skin elasticity
  • Are seeking non-surgical alternatives to liposuction
  • Have localised fat deposits unresponsive to exercise
  • Can adhere to the recommended number of sessions
  • Are non-smokers or willing to pause smoking
  • Do not have active skin infections in the area

May not be suitable if there is:

  • Severe skin laxity that may require surgical lifting
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Bleeding disorders or anticoagulation concerns
  • A history of dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
  • Previous neck surgery affecting the area
  • Unrealistic expectations of outcome

A consultation with an aesthetic doctor will determine clinical suitability based on a review of your history, anatomy, and treatment goals.

Treatment Techniques & Approaches

Fat Dissolving Injections

Fat dissolving injections typically use deoxycholic acid, a compound that helps break down dietary fat. When injected into submental fat, it disrupts fat cells, which are gradually cleared by the body’s natural processes. Multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart are generally required for visible results.

Patients should consult their doctor to determine whether this treatment is suitable and available in Singapore.

Cryolipolysis (Fat Freezing)

This technique uses controlled cooling to freeze and break down fat cells. An applicator targets the submental area without harming the surrounding skin. Results gradually develop over 2–3 months. 1–2 sessions are often sufficient.

Radiofrequency, Ultrasound and Microwave-based Energy Systems

Energy-based treatments such as radiofrequency, focused ultrasound, and microwave-based technology use targeted thermal energy to heat the deeper layers of skin and fat. These methods aim to stimulate collagen production while supporting localised fat reduction and tissue tightening.

They are commonly chosen when both volume reduction and skin firming are desired. A treatment plan may involve several sessions for optimal results, depending on skin condition and treatment response.

Technology & Equipment Used

Only regulatory-approved devices and injectables (e.g. FDA-cleared or HSA-listed) are used in-clinic. Our aesthetic doctor will recommend the most appropriate option based on your anatomy, treatment goals, and clinical suitability.

Results and suitability vary between individuals. A medical assessment is required to determine the best treatment plan.

The Treatment Process

Pre-Treatment Preparation

  • Avoid non-essential blood thinners or supplements (as medically advised) for a week prior.

  • Inform your doctor of medications and past procedures.

  • Clean skin (no makeup or creams) is required on the day. Most procedures are performed using topical numbing only.

During the Procedure

Sessions typically take 15–60 minutes, depending on method and area.

  • Area is cleaned and marked

  • Numbing cream may be applied

  • Injections are done in a mapped grid or

  • Devices are positioned for energy-based delivery

Immediately After

Swelling, mild tenderness, and redness are expected. Ice packs may help. Numbness or firmness can occur temporarily. You’ll receive aftercare instructions and a follow-up schedule.

Potential Benefits of Treatment

  • Non-surgical and outpatient procedure
  • Treatment is customisable to patient anatomy and needs
  • Gradual, natural-looking results
  • May improve facial contour and definition
  • May support motivation to maintain a stable weight

*Results vary and are dependent on factors like skin elasticity, treatment plan, and lifestyle.

Risks & Potential Complications

Common Side Effects

  • Swelling and redness
  • Bruising (typically mild to moderate)
  • Temporary numbness or tingling
  • Discomfort at injection or applicator site

Less Common Risks

  • Prolonged numbness
  • Localised firmness or nodules
  • Asymmetry or uneven fat reduction
  • Skin irregularity, if improperly treated
  • Rare allergic responses (dependent on agent used)

All procedures are performed under medical supervision to minimise risks. Our doctor will discuss all possible side effects and safety considerations during the consultation.

Cost Considerations

Treatment fees depend on the method used (injection, cryolipolysis, energy-based), the number of sessions required, as well as the size and composition of the submental area. You will receive a tailored quote after your clinical consultation and assessment. Our pricing reflects medical oversight by aesthetic doctors, regulatory-approved technology, and structured aftercare.

During your consultation, our doctors will provide a detailed breakdown of the costs involved based on your personalised treatment plan, ensuring you have a clear understanding of the investment required for your clinical goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do results last?

Fat reduction in the treated area is typically long-term. However, remaining fat cells can still enlarge with weight gain. Skin firming effects may benefit from maintenance sessions.

Is the treatment painful?

Most individuals report mild to moderate discomfort. Numbing cream is applied before injections. Device-based methods may feel warm, cold, or tight but are generally well-tolerated.

How many sessions are needed?

2–4 sessions may be needed for fat-dissolving injections. Cryolipolysis may require 1–2. Energy-based treatments may involve 3–6. Your doctor will advise based on your clinical needs.

When will I see results?

Visible improvement may develop gradually over several weeks to months, depending on the individual’s response.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Depending on goals, other aesthetic procedures such as dermal fillers or skin tightening may be added. This is planned carefully based on suitability and safety.

What is the difference between surgical and non-surgical double chin removal?

Non-surgical methods are less invasive and require no incisions or general anaesthesia. Results emerge over time. Surgical liposuction offers immediate fat removal but involves recovery time.

Are lifestyle changes required?

Maintaining a stable weight supports long-term results. While not mandatory, adopting healthy habits can help preserve improvements.

Note: All aesthetic treatments require medical assessment for suitability. Individual results vary depending on factors such as skin elasticity, fat distribution, and overall health.

Conclusion

Double chin removal can be achieved through non-surgical options for suitable individuals. After clinical evaluation, our qualified aesthetic doctors will recommend a plan based on your facial anatomy, skin condition, and treatment goals. With appropriate care, gradual and natural-looking changes may be achieved over time. A consultation is required to determine suitability and outline what to expect.
